Considered Canon’s best midrange zoom (perhaps the best midrange zoom of any SLR manufacturer). Compared to the Canon 24-105 f/4L IS, it has a little less range and does not have IS. However, it’s a full stop faster, may be sharper, and exhibits less distortion, especially at the wide end.
The classic 24-70 f/2.8 L lens remains a popular choice. It’s not as sharp as the Mk II version, but still very good and far less expensive. This version actually has an advantage shooting in bright sunlight since its hood does a better job than the petal hood on the new lens. Overall, it’s just a good lens at a good price.
